Top 5 Wednesday -October 29th 2014 - Books You'd Recommend For Halloween

Hey, so this week its all about books you'd recommend for Halloween, i don't read scary books all that often so this was difficult but i managed to get 5

In no particular order

Miss Peregrines home for peculiar children - Ransom Riggs

Now this story isn't scary but the picture that accompany it are just plain creepy i have never liked pictures like that but they do add to the story, but saying that the story also is amazing.

The Name Of The Star - Maureen Johnson

Again the name of the star isn't scary but its a Jack the Ripper returns story and i have been jumpy about him since i went on a jack the ripper tour but this book is history set in modern day London and was fantastic.

Anna Dressed In Blood - Kendare Blake

Anna dressed in blood is about Cas Lowood who hunts dead people and along his journey he has to deal with a ghost who kills anyone who steps foot into her house except for Cas now this book has a lot of murder, blood and gore so if you don't like that you wont like this book.

The Diviners - Libba Bray

The Diviners is about a girl named Evie and she is sent to New York to be with her Uncle but a murderer has comeback from the dead Naughty John i was so freaked out by this book i finished it at 12:30 am i had to read a contemporary book just to be able to go to sleep.

Naughty John,Naughty John
Does his work with his apron on

The Never List - Koethi Zan

The never list is an adult thriller about two girls who make up a list of how not to get kidnapped but don't follow it and get kidnapped, and it follows the girls years later after they escaped and try to piece together how it happened.

Top 5 Wednesday - Favourite Titles - 22nd October 2014

So my Top 5 titles change all the time but these are my current favourite's.

In no particular order...

United We Spy - Ally Carter (book #6 in the Gallagher Girls Series)

I love this title its just the perfect way to end the series and it encompasses what the series is about friendship and family.

The Virgins Lover - Philippa Gregory (Book #5 in the Tudor Court Series)

I like this title because it is contradictory, this book is about Elizabeth I who is known as The Virgin Queen but its speculated that she was the lover of her friend from childhood Robert Dudley, and again it complements the book perfectly.

Beautiful Disaster - Jamie McGuire (Book #1 in The Beautiful Series)

I don't know why i like this title it just makes me smile when i see it , and when i read it, it made sense because Abby and Travis relationship is beautiful at times and its also a disaster.

Where Rainbows End - Cecilia Ahern (AKA Love Rosie)

I love the old title Where Rainbows end because it is beautiful, it was the title that first drew me in to pick the book up in the shop and then i read the premise then i fell in love with the story. My interpretation of this is a metaphor where rainbows end is a pot of gold or a treasure.

The Statistical Probability Of Love At First Sight - Jennifer E. Smith

Its a tongue twister to say but its so cute and fluffy and when i see it or read the title it makes me involuntarily smile

Top 5 Wednesday 15th October 2014 Books You Were Not Expecting To Like But Did

Hiya,

So my Top 5 Books I Wasn't Expecting To Like But Did goes as follows ...

At number 5 its

The Selection - Kiera Cass (book #1 in The Selection Trilogy)

I went into The Selection thinking it was going to be absolute rubbish because the cover looked fluffy, the back said "reality TV meets dystopian fairytale" and that put me off big time. But then i read The Prince Novella and loved it so i read The Selection and fell in love with America, the world & Maxon and i could not put it down.

Coming in at number 4 it is ...

Stray - Rachel Vincent

When i was first gong to read this book it was at the beginning of July and i looked on Goodreads and saw
that most of the reviews were 1 - 2 stars and That put me off majorly but then at the end of the month i picked it deciding to see what i think of it since i had the box set and wanted to give it a go. So i started reading and from the first chapter i fell in love with the main character Faythe, shes strong, independent.and incredibly easy to read and ended up giving it 5 stars.

Then at number 3 it is

Born Wicked - Jessica Spotswood

i am not a fan of books about witches, but since it is Halloween month i decided to read a couple. And i picked this up thinking i would have to push myself through it but in reality i couldn't put it down and then stayed up till 3:30 am to finish it, I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. This book really opened my eyes back up to witch books.

Coming in at number 2 is

The Maze Runner - James Dashner

The maze runner, is one of them books from the outside look very guy like not targeted for unisex but the story line is pretty male as well. so i thought i wouldn't like this book but i ended up loving the story, the premise and mainly the characters. It sort of dragged me in in the first about 50 pgs, because it is so different from most YA books because its not got a love triangle, and things like that its about a community just trying to live and that is what i love about it.

And finally my number 1 book i was not expecting to like but did is ...

Twilight - Stephenie Meyer

OK so confession time i got my set of twilight books at the end of November 2009 when the New Moon film had just come out i had seen the twilight film but never really gave it any thought. But when the promos for New Moon was going around my mum got me the books and then i saw the NM film and didn't really want to read twilight and new moon so i just jumped right in and read eclipse and that started my love for reading then June of this year i finally picked up Twilight and my god i loved it the film ruined me back then and I'm glad i read the book when i really don't remember the film all that much, because i haven't seen it in years. so all in all i loved Twilight and i do regret not having picked it up sooner i mean its been on my shelf for 5 yrs i probably should have.

Blood Of Olympus Book Review SPOILERS

Blood Of Olympus - Rick Riordan

Synopsis

Though the Greek and Roman crew members of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen—all of them, and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood—the blood of Olympus—in order to wake. The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it might be able to stop a war between the two camps. The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

So The Blood Of Olympus is the fifth and final book in the Heroes of Olympus series. The Heroes of Olympus is about seven demi-gods and a prophecy.
Seven half-bloods shall answer the call. To storm or fire world must fall, An oath to keep with a final breath, And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.
and we unite the Greek Camp and the Roman Camp to fight the enemy.

OK so lets start of with some of the bad points i didn't like..
  • No Percy or Annabeth P.O.V
  • The ending was a bit rushed and anti climatic
so there is only two not many so lets start with there not being any Percy or Annabeth POV's, i was hoping for at least one chapter in Percy or Annabeths POV but that's not to say we didn't get some Percabeth action
" 'This is the place' she said. 'Percy, these are the trident marks of Poseidon.'
Hesitantly, Percy touched the scars. 'he must've been using his extra-extra-large trident .'
'This is where he struck the Earth,' Annabeth said, 'where he made a saltwater spring appear when he had the contest with my mom to sponsor Athens.'
'So this is where the rivalry started,' Percy said.
'Yeah'
Percy pulled Annabeth close and kissed her . . . long enough for it to get really awkward for Piper, though she said nothing. She thought about the old rule of Aphrodite's cabin: that to be recognised as a daughter of the love goddess, you had to break someones heart. Piper had log ago decided to change that rule. Percy and Annabeth were a perfect example of why. You should have to make someones heart Whole; that was a much better test.
When Percy pulled away, Annabeth looked like a fish gasping for air.
'The rivalry ends here,' Percy said. ' I love you, Wise Girl.' "

and to second point it all been leading up to this big battle and there just wasn't one yes there was a bit of a battle and Gaia was defeated but to me it was just a bit like oh shes dead OK that happened. But don't get me wrong i loved the ending i just think it was too rushed and could have been longer and a bit more detailed.

not onto some good points...
  • a good conclusion
even though i just said i think it was ruched i was glad nobody really died and that it was all happy but again i would have liked to see Leo come back to the group but all together it was a good conclusion to a series.
  • We have some plans for the future.
" a loud Whoop! cut though the air.
Over by the hearth in the centre of the common, Percy was grinning at something Annabeth had just told him. Annabeth laughed and playfully slapped his arm.
'I'll be right back,' Nico told Will. ' Promise on the Styx and everything.'
He walked over to Percy and Annabeth, who were still grinning like crazy.
'Hey man,' Percy said 'Annabeth just told me some good news. Sorry if i got a little loud.'
'We're going to spend our senior year together.' Annabeth explained , 'Here in New York. And after graduation -'
'Collage in New Rome!' Percy pumped his fist like he was blowing a truck horn. ' Four years with no monsters to fight, no battles, no stupid prophecies. Just me and Annabeth, getting our degrees, hanging out at cafes, enjoying California -'
'And after that . . . ' Annabeth kissed Percy on the cheek.
'Well, Reyna and Frank said we could live in New Rome as long as we like.'

  • Calypso finally get off island Ogygia
Leo had to rescue her i felt really bad for her in the Olympians series and then when everyone paired together like Jason & Piper, Frank & Hazel and Percy & Annabeth, then Leo was all alone i just love the way he is so sweet and adorable i love that Calypso is happy and so is Leo
  • i loved the dedication for this book it was like the book itself beautiful and funny.
" To my Wonderful readers
sorry about that apology for the last cliffhanger.
I'll try to avoid cliffhangers in this book
Well, except for maybe a few small ones . . . "
Because i love you guys.

and some other points that i just have to mention

I have been hard on Jason the whole time i read this series but he really re-deemed himself in this book like when Percy and Jason were underwater and he promised to make shrines or have cabins built for the smaller Gods  and the way he handled himself.

Piper really came into her own she became a warrior and even managed to get Annabeth to defeat a giant without logic. Also just being an amazing friend like with Annabeth when they were talking about Percy and how he has changed since coming out of Tartarus.

"Since she'd come back from Tartarus, Annabeth had told Piper a lot of scary things that had happened down there. At the top of Her list; Percy controlling a tide of poison and suffocating the goddess Akhlys.
'He seems to be adjusting,; Piper said. 'Hes smiling more often. You know he cares about you more than ever.'

we didn't really have much Frank and Hazel so theres not much to say about them.

now onto some theories

in Chapter XLII Piper POV

They are talking about there families and we have this quote ...

"What about you, Annabeth?'
'My Dad . . . my stapmom and stepbrothers.' she turned to the drakon-bone blade in her lap. ' After all I've been through in the past year, it seems stupid that i resented them for so long. And my dads relatives . . . i haven't thought about them in years. i have an uncle and cousin in Boston.' "

this immediately through up warning signals i knew there was going to be a new series called Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard. My brain went into overload because we didn't need to know that piece of information in what nine books it could have been mentioned when they were talking about Annabeth running away from home. Also the who bit about an old rivalry could it be because Annabeths dad has child with a Greek goddess and her uncle has a child descended from the Asgard myths. i don't know but i cannot wait to find out.

all in all i give this book

Top 5 Wednesday - Female Characters - 8 - 10 -2014

Hi,
so this Top 5 Wednesday is about Female Characters so here is my top 5

Coming in at number 5 is

Elizabeth of York, from the Cousins war series by Philippa Gregory.

we don't know much about her Historicaly she is called the forgotten queen, because nobody remembers her, even though she was a Kings daughter, then a Kings sister, then a Kings niece and finally a Kings wife. When she is born in the second book you see her grow up and contend with her father dying, her brothers being put in the Tower and then murdered, her uncle seizing the throne and then consequently falling in love with him then finally having to marry his killer, she is such an amazing character to read.

4)

Elizabeth Bennet - Jane Austin - Pride and Prejudice

i love her character development throughout the book and just her mannerism like most women of that time period would never pick up a book i love that about her shes different and opinionated for a women in her time period.

3)

Tessa Grey - Cassandra Clare - The Infernal Devices

Tessa has to deal with a lot, she moves to a completely different place from New york to London and then is forced to do what two women who say her brother is a captive want. i could not move to new york from London now let alone in the 1800 and go through everything she does and still be sane.

2)

Celena Sardothian - Sarah J Maas - Throne of Glass

What Celena has dealt with from finding her parents murdered and then becoming an assassin, then spending a year in the mines she is such a strong character that just makes you feel sorry and happy for her at the same time.

And my Number 1 is ....

Rose Hathaway - Richelle Mead - Vampire Academy

i love rose i have loved her from the very first chapter of the very first book she is so sassy, sarcastic, bad ass, and just so damn amazing. she was dropped at the academy at 4 and her mum only visited a handful of times and that affected her a lot she never knew who her dad was. so she raised her self and became friend with Lissa, in kindergarten and then later psychical bonded to Lissa she became the best guardian she could be. she is fierce and protective, and someone who you would want on your side than against.
