Elizabeth is the Sister of the King but not for much longer as King Edward is ill, the battle for the English Throne will be fought for by Two bastardised Princesses and a scheming Duke, with Lady Jane Grey on the throne Elizabeth and her older Sister Mary must both fight for their inheritance, but when all seems well the bitterness Mary has felt for Elizabeth and Her Mother comes to a head and does something that will break the sisters relationship irrevocably.

I didn't want to say too much in the synopsis but this was sooooo good and i got what i wished for that we lacked in the last book we have more Mary and Anne or Nan Bullen as she was referred to by the people who hated her, like Mary it was difficult reading the hatred Mary had for Elizabeth but on the other hand i can completely understand, the way Anne treated Mary was horrible and she cannot take it out on her so she will take it out on the next best thing her daughter.

We were introduced to some new characters and better acquainted with others like Robert Dudley and Lady Jane Grey we only saw her briefly in Young Bess but this time she had quite a lot of scenes but i will admit she got on my last nerve at times, she was childish and whinging all of the time i couldn't wait to get her parts over and done with, but i also felt sorry for her she was forced into becoming Queen she didn't want it and she was killed for it (Not a Spoiler, its history, its common knowledge). We also get to see the beginning of a relationship form between Robert and Elizabeth and how we all come to know him as one of the only men she loved (For definite) i do love that story, Mary as a character was a bit hit and miss at times she was amazing and at others i wanted to throttle her, she again just moaned at everything, but i am starting to see a pattern in Irwin's writing when she introduces a new female character all the do is bitch and moan but the get better as the books/series goes on.

Overall it was very slow to start with but ended very strongly, and i cannot wait to see the Elizabeth, Mary and Philip dynamic because it seems like it is going to get complicated.

I gave this book 4 Flags though it was a tough decision between 3 and 4 because it wasn't the best but there were some really good bits that just edged that 4 flag mark.

Until Next Time
Happy Reading
